Job Description

The Department of Emergency Medicine at John Peter Smith Health Network in Fort Worth, Texas is seeking a Director of Toxicology to join their education team in Summer 2021.   The Director of Toxicology must possess a strong interest in advancing education in Medical Toxicology and will be a vital contributor to the development of the toxicology service.   

In addition to providing resident education within toxicology, the Director of Toxicology will oversee the service line and have input toward the vision and direction of toxicology initiatives and expansions.  Academic Appointments are available at the University of North Texas, Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine, and Texas Christian University School of Medicine with rank commensurate with experience.  

Hospital

JPS is known for its commitment to patient care and recently was awarded a very competitive research grant, only given to 10 hospitals across the nation, from the Substance Abuse Mental Health Service Administration and it is ranked number one in Washington Monthly’s list of top fifty teaching hospitals in America. The residency at JPS was established in 2011 as a fully accredited three-year program and has grown to 15 residents per class.  Seeing over 130,000 patient visits per year, the county hospital population provides incredible learning opportunities in both volume and pathology. The department supports fellowships in Ultrasound, Administration, Education, and Street Medicine.

Emergency Department

  • Admission Rate: 23% 
  • Patients/Hour: 2.0 – 3.0
  • Capacity: 
    • ED Beds: 65 plus an additional 10-beds to be added 
    • CDU Beds: 14 
  • Shift Coverage: 
    • Physician:  
      • 90 – 94 hours of physician coverage daily 
      • A mix of 8, 10 and 12-hour overlapping shifts 
    • APP:  
      • Main ED and Fast Track rotations 
      • 10-hour shifts with overlapping coverage
      • 76 hours of coverage 
  • Documentation:  
    • EPIC 
    • Scribe Services 

Required Qualifications

  • BC/BE (ABEM/ABOEM) in Emergency Medicine
  • Fellowship in Medical Toxicology
  • Clean Background
