ABOUT THE PROGRAM

The IES Critical Procedures Course is led by Elizabeth Fagan, MD, FACEP, Director of Education at IES and Emergency Department Medical Director at BSWH – McKinney. This comprehensive, hands-on course is designed to ensure that IES physicians and advanced practice providers maintain proficiencies in high-risk/low-frequency critical procedures.

Two identical courses will be offered to allow attendees the option to select the most convenient session to attend.

  • 8:00am – 12:00pm Morning Course
  • 12:30pm – 4:30pm Afternoon Course

COURSE OBJECTIVES

Phase One:

    • Perform advance airway procedures with the use of equipment available in your routine working environment, including surgical airway.
    • Review and perform ultrasound guided peripheral vascular access procedures.

Phase Two:

    • Review and perform precipitous obstetrical deliveries including breech and shoulder dystocia.
    • Review and perform pediatric resuscitation procedures including vascular access, airway and chest tubes.
    • Review and perform head and neck procedures including lateral canthotomy and esophageal balloon tamponade device.

Phase Three:

    • Review and perform treatment of priapism.
    • Review and perform aspiration/I&D of peritonsillar abscess.
    • Review and perform regional nerve block for hip fracture.
