We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced EM Board Certified Medical Toxicologist to join our dynamic Emergency Department team. The Department of Emergency Medicine at John Peter Smith Health Network in Fort Worth, Texas is seeking a Medical Toxicologist to join their education team.  The program at JPS was established in 2011 as a fully accredited three-year program with 15 residents per class. Seeing over 130,000 patient visits per year, the county hospital population provides incredible learning opportunities in both volume and pathology. The department supports fellowships in ultrasound, administration and education.

Established in 1906, JPS has devoted more than 100 years to educating physicians while caring for the residents of Tarrant County as the area’s tax-supported hospital district.

Emergency Department:

  • Volume: 130,000
  • Admission Rate: 23%
  • Patients/HR: 2-3
  • Physician Coverage:
    • 75-106 hrs daily
    • 8-12 hr shifts w/ overlap
  • APP Coverage:
    • Fast Track rotations
    • 20-30 hrs daily
    • 10-12 hr shifts w/ overlap

  • Fully accredited chest pain center with PCI
  • JCAHO certified stroke center of excellence
  • Countywide network of health care services operated as the JPS Health Network
  • Located in Downtown Fort Worth, approximately 25 miles from DFW International Airport.
  • Academic Appointments available at the University of North Texas, Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine and Texas Christian University School of Medicine with rank commensurate with experience.
  • The ability to get additional income and protected time for toxicology.
  • Medical Toxicologists with North Texas Toxicology (NTT) have protected time for in-person and virtual toxicology consults covering four hospitals, including two Level 1 centers.
  • NTT is affiliated with three EM residencies and three medical schools, providing ample teaching opportunities.
  • Candidates for this position need to be BC/BE (ABEM/ABOEM) in Emergency Medicine. Fellowship trained in Medical Toxicology, BC/BE for subspecialty certification in Medical Toxicology. Must possess strong interest in advancing education in Medical Toxicology and be a vital contributor to the development of toxicology service.
