Being a safety net hospital for Tarrant County, John Peter Smith and the Department of Emergency Medicine, in conjunction with the Department of Family Medicine, is proud to offer a one-year fellowship to those who desire extensive training and experience in Street Medicine.
Fellows will be an integral part of a multidisciplinary team carrying out the vision of our institution while cultivating the skills needed to become an expert in the field of Street Medicine.
This program will follow a longitudinal curriculum with a broad range of objectives that are crucial to understanding the complexity of Street Medicine, including social medicine, mental health, substance abuse, chronic disease management, infectious disease, structural violence, inclusion health, advocacy, housing systems, POCUS, and trauma-informed care practices.
Fellowship Structure
- 60 hours/month dedicated to the:
- EM Track: as an attending in the emergency department, overseeing residents, APPs, and non-resident shifts. (EM Track requirement: BCEM or board eligible)
- IM/FM Track: as an attending in the urgent care, overseeing APPs and occasionally residents.
- 60 hours/month dedicated to the Street Medicine Fellowship.
- All shifts will be at the JPS main campus, and fellows will engage patients in their reality while on street medicine rounds in Tarrant County.
- Employed by IES as clinical faculty with full-time benefits.
- Salary-based compensation model.
