Dr. John S. Garrett currently serves as the Chair of Emergency Medicine at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas, and as the Beacon Emergency Services Team’s Chief Medical Officer. He most recently served as Chief Patient Safety Officer and Medical Director for healthcare improvement at Baylor University Medical Center, the flagship hospital of Baylor Scott & White Health.
Dr. Garrett completed his fellowship in EMS medical directorship, disaster response, and pre-hospital research at the Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina, and then relocated to Baylor University Medical Center. His research efforts have focused on implementation science, which includes bringing the newest developments in resuscitation science to the emergency departments of Baylor Scott & White Health. Dr. Garrett’s research also encompasses improving care delivery systems to prevent avoidable patient harm and developing operational interventions to address the rapid recognition of critical illness.
